In January 2025 the new segment of Wood Trails was completed. The City owns the 53 acres of undeveloped land located just east of the West Wellington neighborhood. The project started in October 2024 and connected new segments of Wood trails for the community to enjoy and improved about a mile of soft-surface forest hiking trails in the park.

Wood Trails is a network of soft surface trails connecting the Warehouse District with the West Wellington neighborhood. The trails are accessible from 144th Ave NE, near NE 200th Street from the west, and multiple trailheads from the east side. The project was completed in January 2025. Park Impact Fees from developments, including Eastrail Flats and the Gardens District were used to fund the project.

Previous outreach opportunities: Phase 2 construction

The City began construction on new segments of Wood trails in the fall of 2024. Work began on October 7, 2024, and continued for approximately 8 weeks. Overall, a light trail work footprint for this phase of the project was anticipated. The City hosted a neighborhood meeting where the adjacent community was able to ask questions and hear about the updates to the trail.

An estimated scope of work included:

  • Getting vehicles and equipment on site and the start of clearing brush and prepping the zone for some dirt work (approximately 2 weeks)
  • Grading to shape the soil for the incoming trails and mulch installation (approximately 2-3 weeks)
  • Installation of stairs and a final cleanup of the work site (approximately 2-3 weeks)
